Houseboat Vessel Critical Issues affecting Insurance

Houseboat owners with wood fiberglass overlay hulls have been receiving notices from RED SHIELD of "Notice of Non-renewal.

This is a CRITICAL issue!!!

There are no other insurance programs available to the houseboat owners on Lake Union and in the Ship Canal.

Houseboats with wood hulls are currently being written on Housebarge /Floating home policies through Griffin Underwriters. This is a very limited policy being written on the wrong type of houseboat vessels.

We need input, advice or other options. If anyone has a suggestion for these houseboat vessel owners, PLEASE email me - Linda@TheKevLin.com.

If you are not familiar with the difference in these types of liveaboards refer to the DPD Guidelines.

Thank you!

  1. People that live in Houseboats should be minimally afforded the same rights as those living in Mobile Homes. They should not be subject to unreasonable eviction, exhorbitant rent increases, or outlandish insurance requirements. They are not threats to other boaters, they are guardians of the lake, first responders to marina incidents, and keep an eye out on the non-liveaboard boats - adjusting lines, helping people dock their boats, etc.

C'mon legislators and senators - support this iconic Seattle community - help get a reasonable insurance plan in place and protect liveaboards from unreasonable actions.
